County Routes 29, 18, and 35 traverses through the heart of the North Dakota oil country and provide a template for a new route from US 85 and Hwy 1806. Currently, travelers must go south on US 85, east on ND Hwy 23, then north on ND Hwy 1806.
The Northern Bypass Project is evaluating a proposed new route to improve connectivity in the area. A new route would allow east and west bound travelers to trim approximately 17 miles off their trip. This new route will improve the transportation system connectivity in the area for the residents and oil traffic.
The Northern Bypass Project is currently in a planning phase. The Project team is undergoing necessary steps to evaluate potential options, conduct an environmental review, and develop a preliminary design in order to identify and secure funding for the project.
